2017 HIGHEST BEAUTY CABERNET SAUVIGNON

This wine, brilliantly red-purple, has an energy and freshness that makes it resonate at a very high frequency.  The result of a relatively warm summer, followed by a mild autumn, the 2017 “Highest Beauty” captures the aromatic intensity and textural delicacy of the vintage.  Harvested in the first days of October, the grapes had the opportunity to develop fully, with rounded tannins and bright perfume, and with a heightened level of natural acidity.  The wine is mouthwatering and balanced, with notes of raspberry, vanilla bean, loam, clove and frankincense.  It is incredibly seductive, both on the nose and on the palate.  This vintage exhibits refinement over power, tone over bulk, but with a compelling intensity.

96 Pts, James Moleworth's Top California Cabernet Sauvignons of 2017. “Features warmed loam, hot stone and smoldering tobacco aspects, with a lush and deeply layered core of plum sauce and blackberry preserve flavors, steadily expanding as it airs in the glass. A big wine, beautifully rendered and very grounded."

    — James Moleworth, Wine Spectator

95 Pts. “Nuts, herbs and ripe blackcurrant and blackberry flavors. Full-bodied with a suave texture and ripe tannins. Round, relatively soft, and creamy- textured.

H.W. Crabb came to California looking for gold but stayed to become one of the pioneers of Napa Valley winemaking. He named his estate To Kalon Vineyard, Greek for Highest Beauty, because of the lush bounty it provided. Soon, his wines became renowned around the world. And over the last 150 years, the vineyard’s consistent fine quality has made it one of the most coveted in the world. Sited between the sheltering Vaca and Mayacamas mountain ranges deep in the valley, the vineyard has well-drained, gravelly soil that allows the vines to root deeply to find precious moisture and nutrients. The broad diurnal temperature shifts and reliable sun, wind, and fog provide the ideal blend of growth and rest for complex flavor development.
